Avril Cairncross

Avril’s pots are a combination of thrown and coiled elements, fired using the ‘naked raku’ process.  “For the sculptural pieces I use slab and modelling techniques, decorated with coloured slips under a crackle glaze.”

The form of the pot can be very finely controlled by the maker but the Raku surface effects are largely unpredictable and that’s what I love about the process.
