Augmented reality time travel experience in the Heatons, starting at Heaton Chapel Railway Station.

TimeTourist – an app for your smartphone. Imagine having the ability to see the past, from the present. With TimeTourist you will be able to experience time-travel through mobile augmented reality (AR), to discover history around you. Liberate history. Explore, share and discover. Working with Heatons Heritage Society and local groups we have developed an interactive tour. Demo: https://vimeo.com/242127036 Web: https://southmanchesternews.co.uk/time-tourist-history-project-looking-for-support/ The project has been awarded funding by the NHS and SMBC further to winning 31 percent of the public vote against 25 other competing entries. How does this AR work? Still or moving imagery from the past is digitally positioned to its original physical location in today’s world for people to view through their mobile device, to experience looking through to the past. Content will be sourced and created working with the entire community through workshops, involving primary school children through to the third age to achieve; • Intergenerational activity • Platform enabling purpose • Support reminiscence, share memories • Galvanize through heritage • Develop content for a time travel trail The focus is to liberate history, where it happened, engaging users with cultural heritage. Historical artefacts including; imagery, moving image and information, geo-coded to their original locations will become visible to users, to see the past appear through their smartphones, as they explore around them.
